The actual RBT practice exam has 85 multiple-choice questions, with a time limit of 90 minutes. However, only 75 of those questions are scored; the remaining 10 are pilot questions that do not affect your score and are used for future exam development. RBT Practice Exam: Most Asked Questions (Updated 2025)

Where can I take the official RBT Exam?

Once you’ve successfully completed your RBT competency assessment, you’ll be eligible to schedule your exam through Pearson VUE testing centers. The exam is conducted in person, not online.

What is the structure of the RBT exam?

The exam includes 85 multiple-choice questions, out of which 75 are scored and 10 are test questions that don’t affect your result.. You will have 90 minutes to complete the entire test.

Is there a specific passing score for the RBT Practice Exam?

The BACB does not give an exact passing score, as it uses a method called the “Modified-Angoff Procedure” to determine passing scores. However, if you score 80% or more, you have a good chance of passing.

How difficult is the RBT certification test?

The difficulty level depends on each person, but if you study well, most people find it not too hard. Good preparation can help you pass on the first try.

How often can I retake the RBT exam if I fail?

You are allowed to retake the RBT exam up to 8 times within one year. If you fail, you can reapply within 48 hours, but you must wait at least 7 days before trying again.

Can I take the RBT exam from home or online?

No, you cannot take the test from home. Remote or online testing options are not currently available as per BACB’s latest guidelines.
